Has Been Pioneering Livestock Business since College

Budi Susilo Setiawan is a graduate of the Faculty of Animal Science at IPB University in 2004 batch 37. He has worked hard to start his business since he was in college until he managed to build a company, namely CV. Mitra Tani Farm.

The man who was born in Solo, December 14, 1981, started his business while still in college around 2002 to increase his pocket money. Due to his high interest in the business world, he conducted a collaboration with three friends. Budi had the idea to sell goats and sheep owned by farmers in the Bogor area under the name Mitra Tani Farm.

Because at that time it wasn't as sophisticated as it is now, Budi and his friend actually marketed goats with a door to doormethod. Over time, his efforts paid great dividends. His efforts and determination were actually spurred on by the phenomenon of importing meat from abroad, which shows that the livestock sector in Indonesia is not yet capable enough.

After he graduated from IPB University with a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Budi actually had no idea of having a large livestock business with a turnover of billions of rupiah.

In 2004, Budi and his colleagues began to venture to fatten sheep themselves in Tegalwaru, Ciampea District, Bogor Regency, West Java.

The step chosen is very full of consideration and calculation. Some of his considerations that he thought were ideological reasons. Budi said, in Islamic teachings, being a sheep breeder will train someone to have a gentle and diligent characters, and be able to learn to appreciate the process.

Another consideration was the reason of opportunity. Based on Budi's calculations, the livestock business, especially the types of sheep, goats, and cattle, has very good prospects in Indonesia. In 2005, he has managed to own 500 goats and sell 800 goats. Of course the consumers do not only come from the Bogor area, but the Greater Jakarta area to the Central Java area.

Of course, the business he has started since he was in college has not always had good things. In the 2011–2014 period, sales declined to an average of 1,400 heads per year. But that did not make Budi and his colleagues become discouraged.

Apart from focusing on this business, Budi also does not hesitate to share his knowledge and experiences. He has been a speaker at the Livestock Workshop and Business Model Canvas (BMC) Competition. This activity was held by the Student Association of Animal Production Science and Technology of IPB University. This event has the theme of "Increasing Knowledge about Livestock Prospects to the General Public, Especially Pre-Retirement with Livestock Agribusiness Basis".

Apart from raising livestock, Budi also now has other businesses, namely catering, property and agro-tourism.(*)
