Earned 75 Awards While Serving as a Governor

Ahmad Heryawan is a political figure who also has an interest in the world of education. He is one of the best Postgraduates od the Department of Resource and Environmental Economics, IPB University. 

The man who is familiarly called Aher was once an important figure in West Java. He served as the Governor of West Java for two periods, namely in 2008-2013 accompanied by Dede Yusuf, and in the 2013-2018 period accompanied by his deputy Dedy Mizwar.

The man who was born in Sukabumi, June 19, 1966, once sold fried foods made by his neighbor along the road to school. He did that since he was in elementary school until high school. Then, Aher continued his studies in Jakarta in 1992 at the Institute of Islamic and Arabic Sciences, Faculty of Sharia. He received a scholarship from the Arab Embassy. Aher went to college without spending money and of course, he graduated with the best grades.

After graduating from college, he taught at several universities, including Ma'had Al Hikmah, Dirosah Islamiyyah Al Hikmah, Ibn Khaldun University Bogor, Faculty of Economics of University of Indonesia, and the Al Manar Center for Islamic Studies.

After earning his bachelor's degree, Aher continued his studies at IPB University with the concentration in Resource and Environmental Economics and he graduated with the cum laude honor (2014). Then, he continued his Doctoral studies in Management and Business at Padjadjaran University, Bandung.

His career in politics began when he joined the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS). In 1999, he was trusted to become a member of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Legislature. Then in 2004, Aher was trusted as Deputy Chair of the DKI Jakarta Provincial DPRD for the 2004-2009 period.

After serving as Deputy Chairman of the West Java Provincial Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), in 2008, he stepped forward as the Governor of West Java, accompanied by Dede Yusuf and Dedy Mizwar from 2008-2018.

He managed to gain public support so that he could serve as governor for two periods. He carried out an unusual campaign method, namely by meeting people directly in the market as well as meeting motorcycle taxi drivers and carrying the slogan "Super (Security, Prosperity and Religious)". He hoped to form a society that has peace, prosperity, and faith.

He had received many awards while he was serving as Governor of West Java since 2008. A total of 75 awards were achieved by Ahmad Heryawan for the West Java area. It then increased his popularity as an outstanding governor figure. In the middle of his duty with Dede Yusuf, in 2011, Aher was named a figure of change by the national print media, Republika. 

Not only concerned with infrastructure development, during his duty as governor, he also paid attention to education. Ahmad Heryawan allocated 20 percent of the budget for education in West Java and spread it to all districts and cities. 

Some of the awards he had received include: Entrepreneurship Development (2011), Anu Bhawa Sasana Desa (2011), Inclusive Education Award (2011), Adiusaha Puritama for Housing and Settlement Areas (2011), Ganesa Prajamanggala Bakti Adi Utama (2011), Satya Lencana Social Service (2011), Anugerah Parahita Ekapraya (APE) Pratama (2011) Transmigration Award (2011), Citra Bhakti Abdi State Award at the Provincial Level for Public Service of the West Java Provincial Government in (2013) Best Regional Inflation Control Team for Java Region (2013), 2nd Best Public Works Award in Sub-Sector of Spatial Planning (2013), Democracy Award from the Merdeka People's Daily (2014), and Best OSH Award 2014 from the Minister of Manpower(2014).

The number of awards that he had achieved, was one of the proofs of his hard work and earnestness for the responsibility he bore for himself and the community. Not only being a political figure, he is also a teacher and preacher who thinks about generations of the nation to be able to live with knowledge so that they can give birth to a world with a new face.(*)
