A Successful Entrepreneur and Actively Share Free Knowledge
This founder of Gumilang Farm with the icon of the Biofloc Academy, graduated from IPB University in 2011 from the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Biosistence. Yes, it is Teguh Gumilang.
While he was still a student at IPB University, in 2008, he had a small fish business located near the campus. At that time Gumilang Farm was a freshwater cultivation business with a turnover of hundreds of millions of rupiah. Starting from a whim, he decided to start pioneering his freshwater cultivation. As time went on, Teguh began to believe that this world had become his passionand he tried to focus on it. However, he took a break once from his business.
Until 2014, he re-started Gumilang Farm with a new page which was motivated by the idea that the agricultural sector will never die.
The Gumilang Farm that he rebuilt is a business entity that is concerned with the urban farmingconcept. Gumilang Farm has some business core namely, a service provider for training and consultation, as well as agricultural production processes under the auspices of Indonesian Farmers and Indonesian Vegetables.
According to Teguh, the agricultural business will continue at any time as long as people still need food. Thus, the market will continue to exist.
Teguh is a millennial farmer who proves that being a farmer is not a bad thing. He is ready to inspire millennials to dare to farm. Teguh also has big aspirations in the form of growing enthusiasm in the community to cultivate food independently.
Apart from pursuing a freshwater aquaculture business, Teguh is also actively sharing his knowledge with anyone who wants to learn, both local residents and even from abroad. In fact, participants from seven countries have visited Indonesia to learn about the biofloc techniques that Teguh has developed to bring to their respective countries.
In addition, Teguh is also active in sharing his knowledge with orphanages, Tahfidz houses. Currently, there are three Islamic boarding schools that are operated under his guidance. He provides that guidance for free.
With the principle that he is selling what he cultivates and what he eats, he is also trying to facilitate local residents to be able to study for free in order to increase public awareness of the importance of agriculture. It is hoped that the whole community, especially young people, will be proud and no longer ashamed to aspire to become a farmer.
It is not an easy thing to manage the Gumilang Farm business. Of course, Teguh has successfully weathered the storm in this business world. He once lost up to Rp 60 million. Therefore, he always instills that doing business means managing risks, including failures and losses.
He advised that to start a business, we must prepare a strong mentality, not to be whiny and spoiled. Never be afraid to start, it must be started with intention and prayers because the result never betray its effort.(*)
