Perjuangkan Kesetaraan untuk Jurnalis Perempuan
In 2019, the world's eyes focused on one of the provinces in China, namely Xinjiang. The province is home to the Muslim Uighur village, one of the ethnic minorities there. The existence of the village has attracted the attention of all journalists around the world, including Indonesia.
Uni Lubis was one of the journalists who came directly and reported on the situation there. She was with a group of Indonesian and Malaysian journalists when she entered the Uighur village.
The woman whose full name is Uni Zulfiani Lubis is a senior Indonesian journalist who has served as editor-in-chief in many media. She was born in Jakarta, November 29, 1967 and completed her undergraduate education at the Faculty of Agriculture, IPB University.
Uni participated in many activities during her studies at IPB University, one of which was the Menwa (Student Regiment) that tasked her to walk from Bogor to Pelabuhan Ratu, Sukabumi. After attending education, it does not necessarily make Uni into the organization. Apparently she attended Menwa just to prove that she could do it.
In addition, the woman who received the Global Eisenhower Fellowships scholarship is happy to try something new in her life. While still in college, she organized an event that at that time was not normally held by her campus, namely a Java-wide band festival. Entrance was not free either. It turned out that the event organized by her was a success, around two thousand people came to IPB University to witness the event.
Uni had also served as the chairman of the national level journalistic training committee which took place at IPB University. It was then that she first became acquainted with the world of journalism. The first time she started her career as a journalist, she joined Warta Ekonomi, and in the following year Uni was promoted to one of the editors there.
Her promotion was relatively fast because the number of articles she wrote reached the Warta Ekonomi record at that time. Her expertise in the world of journalism is unquestionable, considering the many writings she has written.
Uni has served as Editor-in-Chief in various media, including ANTV, Viva.co.id and Editor-in-Chief at Rappler Indonesia. In addition, she is also active as a member of the Press Council.
Currently, Uni serves as the General Chair of the Indonesian Women Journalists Forum (FJPI) for the 2018-2021 period. One of the things she wants to achieve as general chairman is equality for women journalists in education and training.
This female figure who admires Rohana Kudus, a legendary figure in the Indonesian press, wants more female journalists to be like her idol. According to her, journalists, especially women, should not only be news reporters. But more than that, they must become journalists who can fight for something in accordance with the knowledge they are studying in the world of news.
Now Uni Lubis works as Chief Editor at IDN Times, one of the media units under the auspices of IDN Media. Serving as Editor in Chief makes her very happy, she said when he first joined IDN Media.
“I am very happy to join IDN Media. When I first met Winston (Chief Executive Officer of IDN Media), I was amazed by the vision of IDN Times and what IDN Times has achieved in a very short time. I am excited and confident that IDN Times can become a medium of the future and realize its vision to become The Voice of Millennials and Gen Z,” said Uni.
In addition to carrying out his duties as Editor-in-Chief at IDN Times, Uni is also active in writing content published on his own website, namely unilubis.com. She wrote a lot about opinions in the fields of politics, media, economics, and business.
