The Guardian of Indonesian Maritime Sovereignty
Being a soldier in the army means being ready to be at the forefront of protecting state sovereignty. No matter who the enemy is, a soldier must be ready when the country calls, even if his life is at stake.
That is the basis for Lieutenant General (Marine) Ret. Nono Sampono was active in the Indonesian National Army (TNI). This man who is known to be firm and straightforward in carrying out his mission was born in Bangkalan, Madura, four years after the March 1 General Offensive, or more precisely on March 1, 1953.
His father is from Salt Island, Madura and his biological mother is from Maluku, Sulawesi. When he was only three years old, his parents separated. Living with a host family with a mediocre economic situation has never dampened Nono's enthusiasm to keep moving forward. This actually spurred little Nono to continue to develop and grow into someone who is successful.
Little Nono spent a lot of time in Ambon, Maluku. The husband of Norma Riana was educated at SD, SMP and SMA Xaverius Ambon. His father, Idris Sampono, always encouraged Nono to never give up and told him to go to a good school.
After high school, Nono managed to study at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Pattimura. However, after only a year there, Nono, who was worried about his future if he continued to study, decided to quit and enter the Naval Academy in 1972.
During his time as a Naval Academy cadet, Nono became the pride of his family. In 1976, Nono graduated after successfully completing his studies at AAL well. As a form of his devotion to his parents, Nono with his savings returned to his hometown and gave a house to his parents. Over time, Nono's career in the military continued to climb.
Most of his career was spent in the military. A number of important positions have also been held by the father of Agustini Moerdiana, Taufik Bagus Moerdianto, and Sheila Destaria Moerdianti. Among them are the Marine Corps Commander, Paspampres Commander, Governor of the Naval Academy, Inspector General of the Navy and Commander General of the TNI Academy. Moreover, Nono Sampono has also held civil and government positions as Head of Basarnas.
After retiring to the TNI, Nono began to try the world of politics. Together with Alex Noerdin supported by several parties including the Golkar party. In 2012, Nono advanced to the regional head election as Deputy Governor of Jakarta. But unfortunately he failed in the election. Even though he failed, it didn't mean he gave up.
Then Nono registered as a candidate for the Governor of Maluku for the 2013-2018 period at the local Golkar Party's Regional Leadership Council (DPD). He was motivated to build a more advanced and prosperous Maluku.
In the midst of his busy routine, Nono did not forget the importance of an education. On January 15, 2013, Nono was officially declared to have graduated from his doctoral education at IPB University with a dissertation entitled "Analysis of Government Policies Overcoming the Impact of Reclamation on Coastal Fisheries". It is not without reason that Nono chose the title, the Moluccan son admitted that he was interested in studying marine and fisheries issues because he grew up in an area where most of the territory consists of the ocean.
Nono has held so many important positions, even with the various awards he has won. However, as the saying goes, as far as you go, the main goal is home.
For Nono, serving his hometown is something that cannot be bought with anything, because there is nothing more proud than making his childhood place prosperous.
